Union School District Families: 7/31/2020

Attention Please
Union School District plans to open up school in the fall on August 31, 2020. We plan to provide students with a high-quality and safe educational experience during the 2020-2021 school year. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and under the mandate of Governor Brown, Union School District will use one of the following learning environments:
  • On-site / In-person
  • Comprehensive distance-learning
  • Hybrid (combination of the two)
  • Home School Online option through the InterMountain Service District
  • It is the goal of our district to provide educational opportunities for every student on every school day. While our priority is to hold in-person instruction, our county and state must meet certain metrics established by Governor Brown that reflect COVID-19 rates of residents. Based on the first set of metrics presented by Governor Brown, if a county can meet the criteria they may be able to open in a limited format. Union School District will continue to invest resources to meet the learning needs of all our students regardless of the allowed environment from the state. Ultimately, Union School District is committed to:
  • Providing high-quality, well-rounded learning opportunities for all students
  • Encouraging, supporting, and providing opportunities for active collaboration and communication between the school staff and the families we serve
  • Focusing on student identity, belonging, care, connection, well-being, and mental, social and emotional health
If comprehensive distance-learning is the mandated model to open schools in the fall, it will be a planned response and will look very different than it did in the spring of 2020.Union School District students will have access to rigorous, standards-based, grade-level educational materials and interaction with a teacher skillfully guiding their educational experience. Attendance will be taken and grades earned in addition to other accountability measures families are accustomed to. Union School District learned a lot from the experience this past spring and is prepared to do whatever it takes to be ready for students at the end of August. Breakfast and lunch meals will continue to be provided regardless of the learning environment we are using. Many things could change between now and our planned opening date of August 31, 2020. We will continue to monitor the health metrics and will continue to work closely as a staff to collaborate around instructional models. We truly honor and value each and every student and family of Union School District. We will continue to advocate for metrics to appropriately represent our community, and manage the COVID-19 risk for Union residents. Please help us achieve our goal of holding on-site instruction for our students this school year by following the guidelines outlined by the Oregon Health Authority to help slow the spread of COVID-19. Thank you for your support of Union School District ,and we are proud to represent public education in the city of Union.
